Philip A. Staskus Undergraduate Geography Scholarship (SS6299)
Eligibility Criteria:
• be a junior or senior geography major
• have successfully completed 15 semester hours of geography course work
• have an overall GPA of 2.75 or above
• write a two-page double-spaced essay stating how you plan to use your geography degree
The Philip A. Staskus Undergraduate Scholarship honors Phillip A. Staskus’ extraordinary devotion to his wife and children.
Phillip A. Staskus was born on January 17, 1923 and died on his birthday in 1998. He was a World War II veteran and held undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Iowa. He and his wife Rosemary had six children, three of whom graduated from Texas State University.
While Phillip Staskus was an attorney by profession, he was an educator at heart. He taught tax law at the University of Houston for fifteen years and always challenged his family and friends to seek greater knowledge. Phillip Staskus always said, “The one thing that no one can ever take away from you is your education".
