Newsom/Matlock Sociology Endowed Scholarship (SS6300)

Dr. Rollo Newsom, Distinguished Professor Emeriti began teaching at Texas State in 1966. He served as the Chair of the Department of Sociology (1976-1981), Dean of the University College (1983-1986), and also as Vice President for Academic Affairs before retiring in 2008.

Dr. Donald T. Matlock, Professor Emeriti began his career at Texas State in 1968. Dr. Matlock was Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Department of Sociology from 1986-1998.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Recipient must be a senior, junior or sophomore classification with 45 hours of study completed. Transfer students must have completed at least 30 hours at Texas State
  • Recipient must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a GPA in major of 3.25 at the time of application.
  • Write a brief essay (500 words or less), which explains the applicant’s suitability for the award. Include academic accomplishments, involvement in student organizations, volunteer work etc.,
  • Students graduating in May of this year are not eligible for this scholarship.
