Shelby Renee Newman Memorial Scholarship (SN5121)
Shelby Renee Newman, a Texas State student (then SWT), who died as the result of an automobile accident in 1993, was an orientation assistant for two years and a member of the band for two years. Newman majored in Applied Sociology and received her Bachelor of Science degree posthumously in December 1993. Her parents, friends and supporters, created this scholarship in her honor.
Criteria include: GPA of 3.0 overall, must be an undergraduate sociology major and have taken at least 6 hours in the discipline.
Applicants will submit at least one letter of recommendation from a Texas State faculty member, as well as a 500 word letter of interest that includes information about how the knowledge learned as a sociology major will apply to their career and life beyond college. Preference will be given to those from Kerrville/Kerr County.
