Captain Alex Funkhouser Memorial Scholarship Fund (SF6619)

James “Alex” Funkhouser graduated in 1999 from the Southwest Texas State University with a major in Business and a minor in Military Science. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Over the next seven years, he was promoted to the ranks of First Lieutenant and Captain. On May 29, 2006, Captain Funkhouser was fatally wounded in battle in Iraq. The scholarship has been established to honor his memory and to provide scholarship and financial assistance for students attending Texas State University.

Eligibility Criteria:

Funding of the annual scholarship (funds permitting) payable to any student who meets the qualifying criteria outlined below.
Recipient will be a full-time (12 hours per semester) student enrolled at Texas State University minoring in Military Science.
Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
Preference will be given to students seeking a career in the United States Army upon graduation.
Students that do not graduate or are eliminated from the ROTC program for disciplinary or academic reasons, will be required to return the scholarship funds received without interest.
