The Taetz Family Scholarship honors the Tetz family and the positive impact that diverse geography has had on their lives.

Mark Taetz graduated from Texas State University (previously Southwest Texas State University) in May of 1984 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical and Applied Geography. Over the next few years, he was employed at New Braunfels Utilities while studying to complete an MBA at Texas State in 1989. While employed at New Braunfels Utilities, he began to develop an interest in GIS. This eventually led to a career change and employment with the internationally acclaimed GIS company, Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). Mark has been one of the Geography Department’s best ambassadors and he has always been willing to give back to the department where he experienced his early successes. As a result, he has generously provided a permanent endowment for the establishment of a scholarship to honor his family. The Geography Department recognizes Mark Taetz as one of our most successful graduates and extends its gratitude for his unselfish support and leadership.
