The David Gish Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Athletics Training (SG5516)

This scholarship was established in memory of David Gish who was an award-winning athletic trainer who was employed at Texas State for 24 years. During his 24 years at Texas State, he served as head athletic trainer and assistant athletic trainer. His leadership was not limited to Texas State, but included important contributions to the broader Athletic Training profession. Given Mr. Gish’s commitment to the profession of athletic training, the scholarship recipients should meet the following criteria:

  • enrolled in the Master of Science (M.S.) degree with a Major in Athletic Training;
  • 3.0 or higher GPA;
  • active in Athletic Training Sports Medicine (ATSM) Club;
  • current member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA); and
  • demonstrate financial need

    • How you intend to emulate David Gish and make significant impacts on the Athletic Training Profession through the clinical practice of athletic training, as a preceptor engaged in clinical education, and in service to the profession?
    • Additionally, students should incorporate how receiving this scholarship will allow you the opportunity to achieve your goals in Athletic Training.
    • Essay should be 1-page; single-spaced, 12-pt font, with 1” margins. Please include your name and student ID # at the top left side of the page.
  6. Request a recommendation from your fall preceptor (For Master’s students can be 1st or 2nd ½ of semester preceptor).
