The Sandra E. Estaville Dissertation Scholarship honors Sandra Estaville for her support of the development and implementation of the Geography Ph.D. programs at Texas State University.
Sandra E. Estaville is the daughter of Arnold and Eva Nickel of Fresno, California. Sandra was the first female in her Mennonite family to receive a college degree. To do so, she had to work full-time in the day and attend classes at night and on the weekends for several years; indeed, she successfully completed an amazing 176 credit hours of coursework at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State).
Sandra is a life-long learner who loves to travel and visit new places. She frequently researched different places to explore and is a geographer at heart. As a researcher, geographer, and dedicated advocate of Texas State Geography, she always encourages students to investigate topics that interest them. Possessing this love of learning, Sandra hopes that geography doctoral students will use this dissertation research scholarship to launch their professional careers.
