Russell and Ruth Strandtmann Field Biology Fund (SS5464)

History:
This award is in honor of the late Dr. Russell W. Strandtmann and his wife, Ruth Strandtmann. They established a field biology development fund in their names for the purpose of supporting undergraduate research projects in the areas of whole organism taxonomy, systematics, life history studies, and ecology.

Dr. Strandtmann has served the university as a visiting professor in the Department of Biology. Both Dr. and Mrs. Strandtmann are alumni of Southwest Texas State.

Requirements:

  • Full-time status
  • Undergraduate students who have earned at least 90 credit hours toward their biology degree while at Texas State
  • Students must have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing advanced studies in the biological sciences, particularly in the areas of whole organism taxonomy, systematics, and list history studies

Awards are based on ability and achievement (as demonstrated by GPA and semester load), rather than financial need. Awards may be made to defray the costs of field research, including mileage and per diem costs. Awards may not be used to support expenses related to professional meetings or tuition/stipend grants.
