Richard A. Earl Gamma Theta Upsilon Geography (GTU) Scholarship (SE6068)
Eligibility:
• Be an active member of Gamma Theta Upsilon (officer or nonofficer)
• Demonstrate outstanding service to GTU
• Demonstrate evidence of service to the department, university, and community
• Have a GPA of 3.5 in Geography and an overall GPA of 3.0
The Richard A. Earl Gamma Theta Upsilon Geography (GTU) Scholarship honors Dr. Richard A. Earl for his dedication and service to students, Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU), and the Department of Geography.
Richard A. Earl grew up in San Pedro, California, the port city for Los Angeles during the turbulent 1960s. After serving two years in the United States Army, he graduated from the University of California— Los Angeles (UCLA). While at UCLA he became an active member of the Geography Club and an inaugural member of the UCLA Conservation Club. He continued his studies at California State University at Northridge where he received his M.A. in Geography. He received his Ph.D. in Geography at Arizona State University where he was active in Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) and served as faculty advisor to the Geography Club and GTU at New Mexico State University for seven years.
From 1993 to 2016, he has served as faculty advisor to GTU at Texas State University, whose chapter was selected as national GTU chapter of the year in 1997 and in 2004 and Presidential Honors Chapter in 2014. In 1996 he was elected to serve as Alumni Chair to the national GTU executive committee.
