Easter Endowed Scholarship (SE6080)

Description:
Dr. David C. Easter has established an endowed scholarship for students attending Texas State University. Dr. Easter began his teaching career to high school students in Hemet, California in 1983. He joined Texas State University in 1993, and was a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry for 23 years until his retirement in June 2016. Dr. Easter wrote or partnered in numerous selected publications, and had an affection for teaching to those who were interested to learn. It is his wish to provide financial assistance to a deserving student during their senior year.
Eligibility:

  • Maintain a Texas State GPA of at least 3.0 prior to receiving the award
  • Pursue a major in Chemistry
  • Be enrolled at Texas State for a minimum of 12 hours per semester both long semesters of the academic year that the physical chemistry course sequence is completed
  • Complete the Physical Chemistry II Lecture (Chem 3340) and Physical Chemistry Lab (Chem 3245) courses during the spring semester in order to qualify for the award in their senior year
  • Be on track to graduate as a declared Chemistry major no later than the second fall semester following the completion of the three required physical chemistry courses
  • Exhibit academic excellence in all of their physical chemistry course work
  • During the year of the award, the recipient must:
  • Carry a minimum course load of 12 hours each long semester-which must include all of the required senior-level Chemistry courses that the student has not previously completed
  • Maintain a 3.0 average in courses taken during the year of the award.

Following the completion of each spring semester, the faculty instructor(s) of the physical chemistry lecture and lab courses will nominate one or two outstanding students who meet the criteria. The final selection decision shall be the responsibility of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Scholarship Committee.
