Elton Abernathy Endowment (SA6005)
Dr. Abernathy came to then Southwest Texas State University as a debate coach and speech and drama department chair in 1946 and remained until his retirement in July 1978. Dr. Abernathy wrote the Fundamentals of Speech, a widely used textbook in basic college speech courses; served as president of the Southern Speech Communication Association, and initiated the annual speech festival at Texas State University. To give back to the university, Dr. Abernathy provides this scholarship to deserving Communication Studies students attending Texas State University.

This scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students. The student may be incoming or continuing.
