Roberto A. Galván / San Marcos Lions Club Scholarship (SG5063)

The Department of World Languages & Literatures offers an annual scholarship, the Roberto A. Galván / San Marcos Lions Club Scholarship, to the most qualified continuing student(s) majoring or minoring in Spanish. Recipients of the scholarship may apply in subsequent years.

Eligibility

Students graduating from Texas State during the upcoming summer term are NOT eligible to apply.

This scholarship is available to continuing undergraduate students with junior or senior standing at the time of application who have a declared major or minor in Spanish with a minimum of 30 hours earned at Texas State, including the semester of application. Applicants must have completed or be currently enrolled in at least one upper-division Spanish course, and must have a minimum Texas State GPA of 2.75 and a minimum GPA of 3.25 in intermediate and/or advanced Spanish coursework. Student must also demonstrate financial need.

  1. Please write an essay (300-500 words) describing the role the Spanish major or minor has/have played or will play in your academic career and future endeavors.
  2. Please submit a résumé highlighting department, university, community, and professional activities, as well as honors/awards related to the language major
  3. Please upload a current transcript. You can download your transcript using the Texas State Self-Service Login.
  4. Please provide an explanation of your financial need.
  5. Please request two letters of recommendation for the Roberto A. Galván / San Marcos Lions Club Scholarship from faculty members familiar with your academic work. If you are an incoming freshman, please request two letters of recommendation from high school instructors familiar with your academic work.
